Locations: There are two instances you can catch a Snorlax in Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow. One is sleeping on Route 12, the other is on Route 16. Use the Poke Flute to wake them up and catch them when their HP are low.
This Pokémon naturally learns the following techniques:
LV 01 - Head Butt
LV 01 - Amnesia
LV 01 - Rest
LV 35 - Body Slam
LV 41 - Harden

LV 48 - Double Edge
LV 56 - Hyper Beam

Tips: Snorlax's most powerful weapon is the combination of versatility, raw Attack power and an immense amount of hitpoints. Think of this Craig Harris-like creature as a living tank and you get the idea. It's well armored and packs a strong punch once it gets going. Which brings us to Snorlax's biggest problem: Speed -- or rather the lack thereof. Be prepared to take the initial hit and lose some HP before you can attack for the first time. As far as techniques go, Snorlax comes equipped with the handy recovery move Rest from the get-go. Don't bother with techniques like Body Slam (Head Butt is just as effective) or Harden, but be sure to have Snorlax learn Hyper Beam. This powerful two-part attack (you can't move on the second turn) can act as wonderful finishing move against tough opponents. If you want to create a strong Battle Snorlax, you might also want to consider teaching it a varied array of attacks from TMs. Snorlax can learn the majority of TMs, including Blizzard, Surf, Earthquake, Thunder, Rock Slide, Fire Blast, Self-Destruct and even Psychic. By giving your Snorlax varied attacks, your opponent won't know which Pokémon type is safe to use against your Pokémon. That's a major advantage.

Snorlax is a Normal type Pokémon, so it's of course not a good choice against Fighting and Ghost types. But its strengths are mostly determined by what techniques you chose to teach it. For example, if your Snorlax knows Thunder, Fire Blast and Psychic, it's a safe bet against any number of different types. This makes battling against a versatile Snorlax somewhat of a game of chance. The only truly "safe" types to use against a Snorlax are Psychic, Ghost and Normal Pokémon, but your best bet is to send in a fast Pokémon that knows Sleep, Thunder Wave, or similar status-altering techniques. Toxic also works well, but it takes quite awhile till Snorlax's insanely high HP run out. Beware also of the creature's Rest move. It's a good idea to use a Sleep technique on Snorlax as soon as it wakes up from a Rest move or when it runs low on HP. That way, it can't fall asleep on its own to replenish its HP.
